A select committee of the UK Parliament will visit Moray later this month after local MP Douglas Ross (pictured) urged members of the Scottish Affairs Committee to visit the area as part of their ongoing inquiry into the role of the Ministry of Defence in Scotland.

Commenting, Douglas, who is a member of the committee said:

“As a committee we agreed to hold an inquiry into the MoD in Scotland, so I made a very strong bid for members to come to Moray given the significant military footprint we have in the area with RAF Lossiemouth and Kinloss Barracks.

“This will be an important inquiry looking at all aspects of the MoD in Scotland and given the significant investment by the UK Government at Lossiemouth and the crucial role the Army play locally, nationally, and across the world, I’m certain fellow members of the committee will get an excellent understanding from personnel in the Army or the RAF about what it’s like being based in Scotland and the work our UK armed forces do from communities such as Moray.

“I believe this may be the first time a select committee will have travelled to Moray to take evidence for an inquiry and I look forward to welcoming members and colleagues from Labour, the SNP and the Liberal Democrats.

“I know they will gain a lot from the visits to RAF Lossiemouth and Kinloss Barracks and from our engagement with the personnel and families we will be meeting.”
