Voters Urged to Back SNP for Real Action on Local Priorities

Voters in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse are being urged to back the SNP this week to ensure action on the issues that matter most to them.

With polling day fast approaching, Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes has warned that Labour’s failings have created an opening for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.

SNP candidate Katy Loudon has accused local Labour MPs Michael Shanks and Imogen Walker of letting their constituents down.

Both MPs have supported UK Labour leader Keir Starmer’s decisions to cut the winter fuel payment, retain the two-child benefit cap, raise National Insurance and back billions of pounds in cuts to disability support.

Kate Forbes says Thursday’s vote is a clear opportunity to choose a party that will put local priorities first.

“On Thursday 5 June, the people of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse have the chance to unite behind the SNP and vote for real action on the issues they care about,” she said.

“The difference an SNP vote makes is clear.

“We are protecting our NHS, tackling child poverty and rejecting austerity.

“Every single day, we are working to build a fairer, better Scotland.

“In stark contrast, Labour’s record speaks volumes.

“They have voted for more austerity, refused to scrap the two-child cap, supported cuts to the winter fuel payment and backed billions in cuts affecting disabled people.

“That is not change.

“It is betrayal.

“Labour’s failure has opened the door to Farage and his divisive brand of politics.

“The SNP is the only party standing up to Reform UK.

“We are the only party putting Scotland’s priorities first and offering a real alternative to Westminster’s broken promises.

“This by-election is a vital chance to shape the future of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.

“It is a moment to send a clear message that Scotland deserves a party that will always put Scotland first.”

Katy Loudon echoed the call for voters to rally behind the SNP.

“People here deserve an MSP who will always put their interests first,” she said.

“Not Labour politicians more concerned with pleasing Keir Starmer than standing up for those who elected them.

“The contrast between the SNP and Labour could not be clearer.

“While Labour is imposing hardship on local families, the SNP is helping people through the cost of living crisis.

“We are offering hope and the prospect of a fairer future.

“Labour’s failings have emboldened Nigel Farage and his toxic politics.

“Voting SNP on Thursday is a vote to reject Farage and to support real action on the issues that matter most to local people.”
