Wildlife Trust Seeks New Reserves Manager for North Highlands

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is looking for a new Reserves Manager to help lead conservation efforts across the North Highlands.

Based at Inverbroom near Ullapool, the full time position offers the chance to play a key role in protecting wildlife, supporting local communities and helping shape the future of some of Scotland’s most treasured natural places.

With a salary of £35,000 a year, the post represents an opportunity for someone with a passion for conservation and leadership to build a career at the heart of one of the Highlands’ leading environmental organisations.

The successful candidate will oversee the day to day management of a number of Trust reserves across the region, ensuring projects are delivered effectively while maintaining strong relationships with communities, volunteers and partner organisations.

The role combines practical conservation work with strategic planning, requiring someone who can balance environmental priorities with people management and long term site development.

Responsibilities include leading local teams, supporting volunteers, managing budgets and ensuring reserve operations meet health and safety requirements and wider regulatory standards.

The post holder will also be responsible for overseeing ecological information and ensuring decisions are guided by evidence and good environmental practice.

For many people seeking a career in the environmental sector, opportunities of this kind are relatively uncommon in the Highlands, particularly in areas that combine leadership responsibilities with hands on involvement in conservation projects.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is Scotland’s largest voluntary conservation organisation and manages a network of reserves designed to protect habitats, species and landscapes for future generations.

Its work across the Highlands has become increasingly important as communities, land managers and environmental organisations respond to the challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change.

The role also reflects the growing importance of conservation employment within the Highland economy, where environmental stewardship, tourism and sustainable land use are becoming ever more closely linked.
