AC Cars Unveils New Cobra GT Coupe as Production Begins on Modern Supercar

Britain’s oldest active vehicle manufacturer has unveiled the production version of its new AC Cobra GT Coupe, marking a major milestone in the company’s 125th anniversary year.

AC Cars has revealed the fixed roof supercar, describing it as a bold new chapter for one of the most recognisable names in automotive history.

The new model joins the company’s growing GT range and combines classic AC Cobra styling with modern engineering, performance and technology.

Inspired by the legendary AC A98 coupe race car of the 1960s, the GT Coupe has been designed as a grand tourer while retaining the aggressive character that made the Cobra famous around the world.

Built around AC Cars’ aluminium spaceframe chassis and clothed in a bespoke carbon fibre body, the new car weighs less than 1,600kg and is available with either naturally aspirated or supercharged V8 power.

The most powerful version produces 730PS and 820Nm of torque, enabling the supercharged model to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in under 3.5 seconds.

Drivers can choose between a traditional six speed manual gearbox or a modern ten speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

The GT Coupe shares much of its engineering with the recently launched GT Roadster but introduces a distinctive fixed roof design featuring a double bubble roofline and aerodynamic rear styling inspired by historic racing cars.

Despite its performance credentials, AC Cars says the new model has been designed to remain comfortable and practical for long distance driving.

The cabin includes climate control, electric windows, touchscreen infotainment and navigation systems, alongside handcrafted leather finishes and bespoke customer options.

Speaking at the launch, AC Cars Chief Executive Officer David Conza said:

“The AC Cobra GT Coupe is unique in the history of AC Cars and, with production of the GT Roadster now underway, it shows the road ahead for the company as we build and deliver cars for existing customers.

“As we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the company, I want to thank the entire team for their dedication as we move from a boutique manufacturer to a global performance brand.

“However, we will still retain the craftmanship and exclusivity that our clients respect.”

Production of the GT Coupe will be extremely limited, with each vehicle built to individual customer specifications.

Prices start from approximately £234,300 plus taxes for the naturally aspirated version, rising to around £256,300 plus taxes for the supercharged model.

The first customer deliveries are expected in 2028 following completion of the initial AC Cobra GT Roadster production programme.

For a company founded in London more than 125 years ago, the GT Coupe represents both a tribute to a legendary past and a statement of intent for the future of British performance car manufacturing.
