Cullivoe Primary School in Yell has been reaccredited with a Gold Rights Respecting School Award from Unicef UK.
The Award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies and practice.
The Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award is given to those schools committed to promoting and realising children’s rights, and encouraging the school community to respect the rights of everyone in the school.
Cullivoe Primary School, which currently has ten pupils on the school roll, is the only school in Shetland to have achieved this Award and one of only around hundred schools across Scotland.
The school last achieved a Gold Accreditation in March 2017.
Claire Lawson, Head Teacher of Cullivoe School, said:
“We are all very proud of the work we have done to put children’s rights at the heart of our work.
“To have been reaccredited at Gold reflects the work we have done to embed the principles of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child in to our everyday practice.
“I would like to thank pupils, parents, staff and our wider community for all they do to support our school’s ambitions.”
