Drivers Advised of Road Restrictions for Highland Cross 2026

Drivers travelling across parts of Inverness shire this weekend are being advised to plan ahead as temporary road restrictions come into force for Highland Cross 2026.

The annual endurance event, which attracts hundreds of competitors and supporters from across Scotland and beyond, takes place on Saturday 20 June and will see a number of roads affected to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

The Highland Council has confirmed that the Fasnakyle Brae road will be closed between 11am and 5pm, while restrictions will also be in place in Beauly Square during the event.

Several other routes across the area will be subject to temporary traffic management measures as competitors make their way across the Highlands.

The A862 between its junction with the A831 at Beauly Toll and Mid Street in Beauly will operate under restrictions from 12.45pm until 6.30pm.

Restrictions will also be in force on the A831 between the A862 junction and the U1480 Altyre Road from 12.45pm until 6pm.

Traffic on the U4929 Ault A Chruinn, Carn Gorm and Morvich route will be restricted to one way movement only, travelling from south to north.

Meanwhile, the Loop Road at Inverinate, near Kyle of Lochalsh, will operate as a one way route between its southern and northern junctions with the A87 between 8am and 11am.

Motorists are also being reminded that temporary no waiting restrictions will be in place from 6am until 7pm on Saturday in parts of Beauly.

The restrictions apply to sections of the A862 between Priory Walk and Mid Street, Commercial Street between the A862 and Beauly Square, and the River Beauly to North Ferry Road between the A862 and Beauly Square.

Drivers are being encouraged to allow extra time for journeys, follow diversion signs where necessary and take extra care in areas where competitors and spectators are expected to gather.

The Highland Cross remains one of Scotland’s most iconic sporting events, combining a challenging duathlon across the Highlands with fundraising efforts that have generated millions of pounds for Highland charities over the years.

The Highland Council has wished event organisers and all competitors the very best for this year’s event.
