Ellison Hudson has lived long enough to know that small acts of kindness can change a life, yet at eighty seven she still refuses to sit back while children in the worlds poorest communities go hungry.
The great grandmother has completed her third fundraising challenge for Marys Meals, cycling thirty miles around a racetrack on her tricycle over three days to mark the charity’s remarkable milestone of feeding three million children every school day.
Marys Meals provides daily school meals for children living in some of the hardest hit parts of the world and Ellison says the charity has been close to her heart ever since she travelled to Malawi and witnessed the impact of a simple plate of food.
She said:
“Marys Meals is a charity very close to my heart.
“They provide daily school meals for children in some of the worlds poorest communities offering them food, hope, and the chance of an education.
“After seeing the life changing difference a simple school meal could make when I visited Malawi, I knew I had to help in whatever way I could.”
Her latest ride coincides with Marys Meals Double The Love appeal, which runs this Christmas and sees every donation matched by a group of supporters up to a total of one point one million pounds.
Ellison says the appeal offers people a chance to make twice the difference at a time when the charity is committed to reaching the three million children it already feeds and the many more still waiting.
“It costs only 19.15 to feed a child for a whole school year and during Double The Love that same donation will feed two children.
“Even the smallest gift makes a big difference with each meal costing just ten pence.”
Marys Meals says the matched funding will continue until the one point one million pound limit is reached and is urging supporters not to miss the chance to double the value of their gift.
Ellison hopes that her thirty mile effort can inspire people of all ages to do something in support.
“If I can cycle 30 miles at my age I hope it shows you are never too old or too young to do something to help.
“Together this Christmas we can turn hunger into hope for the children who need it most.”
Marys Meals donations can be made online and the charity says every pound given during the appeal has the power to stretch twice as far.
