MSP for the Highlands & Islands Emma Roddick celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Scottish Parliament accompanied by local hero, Myra Ross.
Nominations were called earlier this year for members of the public to get in touch with Emma to put someone forward who they felt had made an outstanding contribution to their community.
Myra Ross was nominated and chosen for her dedication to tackling gender-based violence, supporting survivors and developing ways to communicate the realities of being in an abusive relationship.
Commenting on the day and her Local Hero, Emma said:
“I was absolutely delighted to celebrate 25 years of the Scottish Parliament with colleagues and friends; an event that was made even better by getting to take along my Local Hero, Myra Ross.
“I first met Myra in her role at the Highland Violence Against Women Partnership where we discussed the work she had been doing locally to support survivors and prevent violence.
“It was clear to me immediately that Myra is an inspirational member of the community, dedicating so much of her time to ending gender-based violence.
“Since confirming Myra as the Hero, I have received emails from constituents telling me how worthy she is of this recognition, a testament to the difference she has made for so many folk locally.
“I was so proud that she accompanied me as my Local Hero for this very special occasion.”
Speaking after the celebration on Saturday, Local Hero Myra Ross said:
“It was an absolute honour to be nominated and a privilege to spend the day in the company of so many inspiring Scots.”
