A determined group of senior gym-goers, with a combined age of 837, took on a fitness challenge at the Leven Centre Open Day, raising an impressive £2237.50 to support young carers in Lochaber.
Led by High Life Highland tutor and coach Maria MacDonald, the group of ten fitness enthusiasts tackled a range of exercises to complete their fundraising mission.
Participants selected ten exercises from an extensive list, which included treadmill, cycling, rowing, and cross trainer sessions, as well as squats, bicep curls, leg presses, and more.
These remarkable fundraisers regularly attend Maria’s Dynamic Wellbeing, Fit Plus, Otago, and Escape Pain classes at the Leven Centre, and their dedication has resulted in a generous contribution to the Lochaber branch of Connecting Young Carers.
Maria MacDonald shared her pride in the group’s achievements, saying:
“When my class members heard about the Leven Centre Open Day, they wanted a challenge that would also benefit a local cause.
“I put together a list of exercises, and they eagerly signed up, determined to complete the challenge while having fun.
“They all did incredibly well, with some even pushing themselves beyond the required exercises, and the amount they raised for Connecting Young Carers is just fantastic!”
One of the participants, Jan Gosden, highlighted the positive impact of their weekly exercise sessions.
“The Dynamic Wellbeing class at The Leven Centre has been amazing for our physical and social health,” Jan explained.
“We wanted to use the Open Day to show how beneficial these classes are while giving back to the community.
“We chose to support Young Carers in Lochaber and are so grateful for everyone who donated.
“Our initial fundraising target was surpassed three times over!”
