Scottish farmers and crofters are mobilising for a critical rally outside Holyrood on Thursday 28 November to defend their economic future.
The National Farmers Union Scotland (NFUS) is calling on agricultural communities, businesses, and supporters to demonstrate their commitment to securing sustainable rural funding.
This unprecedented gathering comes in response to significant funding uncertainty following the recent UK Budget, which transferred agricultural support responsibilities exclusively to the Scottish Government.
NFUS President Martin Kennedy highlighted the profound stakes, emphasising that the rally represents a pivotal moment for Scottish agriculture’s survival and prosperity.
“We are facing a monumental challenge that threatens food production, family farming businesses, and environmental sustainability,” Kennedy stated passionately.
The rally aims to send a powerful message to Scottish parliamentarians about the crucial need for multi-annual, ring-fenced funding supporting agriculture, food production, and rural communities.
Participants will gather from 11.30am, with leading politicians expected to address the crowd and hear direct testimonies from farmers and crofters across Scotland.
NFUS is encouraging not just farmers and crofters to attend, but also upstream and downstream businesses dependent on a thriving rural economy.
The event precedes the Scottish Government’s budget announcement on 4 December, providing a critical platform for agricultural stakeholders to voice their concerns and expectations.
With the future of Scottish farming hanging in the balance, this rally represents a unified stand for agricultural resilience, economic stability, and rural community preservation.
