Three more play areas in Orkney have received a colourful upgrade just in time for the lighter nights and warmer days.
Children at Eday Community School, Marwicks in Stromness, and Brandyquoy in Kirkwall are now enjoying brand-new equipment after recent improvement works.
The enhancements were made possible through the Scottish Government Playpark Renewal Funding.
At Eday, pupils helped shape their new play area by choosing equipment designed with older children in mind.
Headteacher Mrs Rona Humphreys shared how delighted everyone was to receive the news from Katell Roche at Orkney Islands Council.
Children requested a climbing frame and see-saw, both of which have become instant favourites in the playground.
Mrs Humphreys praised the children’s creativity, noting how the additions have sparked new games and imaginative play.
She also thanked Heddle Construction for providing fencing to keep the site secure during installation.
The upgrades follow closely on the heels of improvements to Whitehall Village’s play area in Stronsay.
All recent works were part of a bulk installation carried out by Scotplay, who provided the equipment, while local contractors handled the groundwork.
OIC’s Team Manager of Sport and Leisure, Katell Roche, recognised the public’s patience during the process.
She highlighted the cost and complexity of delivering such projects and expressed gratitude for continued government support.
Councillor Gwenda Shearer, Chair of the Education, Leisure and Housing Committee, said the upgrades were much wanted by the community.
She emphasised the importance of having play areas that are accessible, engaging, and ready for the seasons ahead.
Councillor Shearer also extended thanks to everyone working behind the scenes to make the improvements possible.
With spring on the horizon, Orkney’s youngsters now have even more reasons to get outside and enjoy their surroundings.
Playtime just got better across the isles.
