Highland Council is stepping in to ensure residents have a reliable bus service following Stagecoach’s decision to end the Ness Castle to Inverness City route.
The Council’s in-house bus service will take over, offering an uninterrupted connection for communities along the route.
Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Ken Gowans, hailed the swift action by Highland Council Buses, which will launch the replacement service on Monday, 13 January.
Councillor Gowans expressed his gratitude to the Council’s bus staff for their rapid response, ensuring public transport remains accessible and dependable for residents.
He highlighted that the route serves several housing developments, providing a crucial link to the city centre for many who rely on regular public transport.
This move underscores the value of having an in-house bus service that can quickly adapt to community needs.
The new service, numbered 16, will operate six days a week from Ness Castle to Castle Street, covering Mondays to Saturdays.
Passengers can soon access the full timetable on the Highland Council Buses’ dedicated webpage and Facebook page.
By stepping up to fill this gap, Highland Council is demonstrating its commitment to keeping communities connected.
