A whisky rooted in Highland tradition and wrapped in storytelling has earned a place in the national spotlight.

Seanchaidh, the bespoke whisky created for the Inverness Castle Experience, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Scottish Design Awards in the Packaging category.

In a record year for entries, the nomination is a proud moment for the Highlands and a tribute to the creative minds behind this unique collaboration.

Named after the Gaelic word for storyteller, Seanchaidh has already begun sharing its tale well before the doors of the Inverness Castle Experience open later this year.

Designed by Inverness creative agency Dynam, the packaging brings Highland heritage to life in every detail.

The project was developed in close partnership with Sally Robertson from the Own Label Company, who sourced the Highland whisky from a respected local distiller.

More than a bottle, Seanchaidh is a piece of the Castle itself.

At the heart of the design is the Castleโ€™s iconic Rose Window, which is revealed through a clever double-sided wraparound label.

As the bottle turns in the hand, the design is slowly uncovered, inviting curiosity and quiet discovery.

The design brief called for a whisky that speaks to the soul of the Highlands, and Dynam answered with warmth, symbolism and a clear sense of place.

Seanchaidh reflects the Castleโ€™s role as a keeper of Highland stories, past and present, and brings that connection to life with every sip.

The Inverness Castle Experience is a key part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, backed by a ยฃ30 million investment from the UK and Scottish governments, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and others.

Cllr Ian Brown, Leader of Inverness City and Area and Co-chair of the project delivery group, said being shortlisted was a fantastic recognition of the regionโ€™s creative strength.

He praised Dynamโ€™s work for capturing the spirit of the Highlands and celebrating what makes the area unique.

Michael Golding, Chair of High Life Highland, echoed that pride, calling the design more than just packaging.

โ€œThis whisky embodies everything the Castle stands for,โ€ he said.

โ€œConnection, culture and the spirit of the Highlands.โ€

Creative Director David MacGregor added that the label was made to reward attention.

โ€œThe more you look, the more you find.

“We wanted the design to invite exploration, just like the Castle itself.โ€

The Scottish Design Awards will take place in Glasgow on 25 June, where winners from across the country will be honoured.

Whether enjoyed as a dram or admired as a design piece, Seanchaidh brings Highland heritage into the hands of visitors, one story at a time.
