Hopeful Path to Independence Set Out as Scotland Heads to The Polls

With just six months until Scotland heads to the polls, the SNP has promised to deliver what it calls a bold, optimistic vision for the nation’s future, centred on independence, tackling the cost of living crisis, and protecting Scotland’s NHS.

Framing the 2026 Holyrood election as a defining moment, the party says it will offer voters a fresh start with independence and a positive alternative to what it describes as Westminster’s “politics of decline and division.”

SNP Campaign Director Angus Robertson said the next election will be about choosing between two very different paths “a broken Westminster system that continues to fail Scotland” or “a future in Scotland’s own hands.”

“Keir Starmer’s Labour government has confirmed that, regardless of which party is in power, Westminster government simply does not work for the people of Scotland,” Mr Robertson said.

“Wages have stagnated and prices have soared, while the rich have gotten richer.”

“In contrast, the SNP has demonstrated that self-government does work for Scotland, from keeping prescriptions and tuition fees free, to bringing down waiting lists and scrapping peak rail fares, the SNP has delivered for the people of Scotland.”

Mr Robertson said the party’s campaign will highlight Scotland’s successes under devolution while setting out a clear case for taking the next step with independence.

“The SNP is ready to take Scotland further,” he said.

“At next year’s election, we will offer a positive, forward-looking vision that protects our NHS, tackles the cost of living crisis, and stands up for Scotland’s right to choose independence.”

“We will set out a bold, optimistic vision for Scotland’s future, where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, where our energy wealth can work for us, and where Scotland can realise its full potential.”

Mr Robertson urged voters to reject Westminster pessimism and choose hope.

“We can reject Westminster’s politics of decline and division and instead vote for a vision of hope for the future,” he said.

“A better future is possible when that future is in Scotland’s own hands, and next year, people can vote SNP for a fresh start with independence.”

The 2026 election campaign is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested in decades, with independence once again taking centre stage as the defining choice for Scotland’s future.
