Labour Welcomes Right Wing Tory into Party

The SNP’s Westminster Leader has challenged Sir Keir Starmer on his party’s values after Labour welcomed “one of the most right-wing” Tory MPs into their fold.

In a letter to the Labour leader, Stephen Flynn asked if the values of Natalie Elphicke – the second Tory MP to defect to Labour in a fortnight – were now the Labour party’s values.

Amongst other things, Ms Elphicke has:

  • Been suspended from the House of Commons for trying to influence a judge presiding over the sexual assault trial of her ex-husband, Charlie Elphicke.
  • Following Charlie Elphicke’s conviction, Natalie Elphicke claimed her sex offender ex-husband had been punished for being “attractive and attracted” to women.
  • Used a debate on P&O’s mass and completely unjustifiable sacking of 800 workers to attack trade unions.
  • Suggested Marcus Rashford missed his penalty in the Euro 2020 final because he was too focussed on his free school meals campaign.
  • Backed Boris.
  • Endorsed Liz.
  • Voted against a ceasefire in Gaza.

Commenting, Stephen Flynn MP said:

“This latest lurch to the right of UK politics by the Labour Party will shock hard working families across these isles.

“At a time when the public are crying out for change we have the Labour Party taking on an MP who actively campaigned for both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

“When Sir Keir Starmer talks about a changed Labour Party we can see that the face of that change is one of the most right-wing politicians in parliament.

“It is absolutely grim.”
