Kate Forbes MSP (pictured) has hailed the success of the Scottish Government’s Croft House Grant Scheme after it was confirmed this week it has now delivered over 1,000 grants.
The scheme began when the SNP came to power back in 2007, and since then it has awarded £21.2 million to families and individuals in rural and island communities across Scotland.
It helps crofters to upgrade housing or build new homes, allowing them to achieve the full potential of their crofts while generating economic activity.
Earlier this week Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Tourism Fergus Ewing MSP announced the latest round of funding – totalling over £300,000.
Kate Forbes, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, said:
“Housing is critically important in my constituency, and the Croft House Grant scheme has enabled many to build and occupy their own homes.
“So often, crofters have access to some land but not the financial resources to build or maintain a home and this scheme has made the difference for somebody wishing to croft.
“There are few issues as fundamental as housing to enabling rural communities to thrive and grow, and these figures are very encouraging.”
