A Triumph for Rush Fans
The excitement is palpable in Inverness as the iconic Rush tribute band, Moving Pictures, gears up for their return to Eden Court on Friday, September 27th.
After a sold-out performance last year, the band is making a triumphant comeback, this time performing in The Empire Theatre, promising a night of epic proportions for Rush fans across the Highlands.
Hailing from the Scottish Highlands, Moving Pictures has steadily built a reputation as one of the most thrilling and authentic Rush tribute bands in the UK.
Their upcoming performance is a testament to their growing popularity, following a whirlwind year that saw them play 75 shows, headline in Europe, and even take on Brazil’s prestigious RUSHfest.
They’re poised to deliver a 3 hour spectacle, covering every era of Rush’s legendary catalogue, including a full rendition of the Permanent Waves album.
It’s not just a tribute show; it’s an immersive experience that recreates the power, precision, and passion of the original Canadian rock trio.
Fans are in for a journey through time, with highlights spanning from Rush’s early 1970s progressive rock experimentation to their synthesiser driven 1980s hits and beyond.
One of the standout members of the band is guitarist and Arisaig local, Steve Brown.
Known for his versatility and passion, Steve’s journey to Rush fandom is as unique as his musical career.
From his early days in Stirling, forming one of the UK’s best anarcho-punk bands, Political Asylum, to his success with classic rock outfit Seeing Red, Steve’s story is one of resilience and dedication.
He’s an artist who has done it all—performed in the iconic Marquee Club in London, appeared on The James Whale TV Show, and toured across Europe.
After a personal tragedy—the loss of his close friend and musical partner, Angie Townsend—Steve’s charitable spirit shone through as he helped raise over £136k for cancer charities in her memory through RUSHfest Scotland, a fan convention he founded in 2013.
Now, Moving Pictures is his magnum opus.
Founded in 2011 as a hobby project, the band has evolved into a full-time tribute act.
When they aren’t selling out theatres or touring internationally, Steve still finds time for his original band, Wonderland, and even serenades local hotel parties with the music of Jim Reeves—a testament to his extraordinary range as a musician.
Moving Pictures is not just a Rush tribute band—they are a celebration of the music that defined generations of rock fans.
Steve’s relentless “go big” approach to managing the band has led to some monumental achievements.
Just last year, they were invited to perform at Lakeside Park in St. Catharines, Ontario, at the personal invitation of Rush drummer Neil Peart’s family.
As one of the highlights of their career, the performance demonstrated the band’s growing international recognition and the deep respect they have garnered within the global Rush community.
Drummer Jamie Dunleavey, who joined the band in 2022, has brought a new energy and excitement to the stage.
Her dynamic drumming is showcased in a blistering solo during their rendition of YYZ, a fan favourite instrumental that has wowed audiences from Europe to South America.
Meanwhile, the band’s ongoing success has been furthered by their ability to stay true to the intricate musicality and technical prowess that Rush is known for.
For those lucky enough to grab tickets to this show at Eden Court, the evening will be nothing short of exhilarating.
Expect dazzling musicianship, a meticulously crafted setlist, and an atmosphere crackling with the electricity of a shared love for one of the greatest rock bands of all time.Â
Moving Pictures is, without a doubt, one of the most authentic and dedicated Rush tributes out there today.
With a history that stretches beyond the stage—from Steve’s humble beginnings in Arisaig to their international acclaim—the band’s journey is an inspiring tale of passion, perseverance, and sheer talent.
And for Rush fans, both die-hard and casual, this show promises to be one for the ages.
If last year’s packed house is anything to go by, Inverness is in for an unforgettable night.
