A fresh wave of funding is offering a golden opportunity for communities across the Highlands to bring local creativity to life.

Caithness, Sutherland and Ross MSP Maree Todd is urging groups and organisations to apply for the latest round of the Creative Communities Fund.

Backed by £320,000 from the Scottish Government, the fund is designed to support a wide range of creative projects that bring people together and encourage participation in the arts.

From dance and filmmaking to creative writing, music and storytelling, the funding will open doors for people of all ages to get involved in community-based creative expression.

At least ten new projects are expected to benefit, with grants of up to £35,000 on offer for those ready to spark imagination and connection in their local areas.

The fund is being delivered by Inspiring Scotland, a national charity that works to empower grassroots change and increase wellbeing through community-led action.

Speaking this week, Maree Todd described the fund as a vital source of support for groups who want to make a difference through creativity.

She believes the Highlands’ cultural depth and storytelling traditions make it the perfect place to nurture fresh talent and build vibrant local arts scenes.

“The Highlands has a rich cultural heritage,” she said.

“This fund offers an excellent opportunity for local groups to showcase that creativity, inspire others and ensure that more people can enjoy and take part in the arts locally.”

She added that taking part in shared creative activities has lasting benefits for health, wellbeing and community spirit.

From village halls to community centres, storytelling nights to song circles, creative projects have long been at the heart of Highland life.

This new funding ensures that tradition not only continues but thrives, with a focus on inclusion and local voices.

Applications are now open, and eligible organisations are encouraged to apply with ideas that are rooted in their communities and aim to bring people together through shared creativity.

The Creative Communities Fund is not just about making art.

It is about using creativity as a tool to strengthen communities, improve mental health and keep Scotland’s cultural spirit alive from city to coast.

It’s an invitation to dream, to collaborate and to create something lasting.

For groups with a passion for storytelling, movement or music, this could be the moment to bring that idea to life.

Because when creativity flourishes, communities do too.
