Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is changing location in Thurso as part of a drive to help more people through partnership working in community venues.

Residents in Thurso set to benefit from changes to the career service

Residents in Thurso will soon have more choice about where and when they can speak to a careers adviser.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the organisation that delivers the national career service, is utilising a range of local community sites to expand its availability across the area.

SDS advisers offer free, impartial career information, advice, and guidance for people of all ages in secondary schools, centres and community venues across Scotland.ย ย

In preparation for this change, the team moved out of Tollemache House on Thurso High Street on Wednesday 13 March.

Anthony Standing, SDS Head of Operations North explains:

โ€œAlthough weโ€™ve moved out of Tollemache House, customers can still access face-to-face career information, advice and guidance in the Thurso area.ย

โ€œOur professionally qualified careers advisers will be available for appointments in various community venues in the town.

โ€œWeโ€™re looking forward to reaching more customers across the area and working closely with our partners to deliver community-based career services that are accessible for more people.โ€

Anthony added:

โ€œCustomers are also able to make an appointment to see us in the Pulteney Centre in Wick, home of the Pulteneytown Peopleโ€™s Project (PPP), if that suits them better.โ€

Julie Cassidy, Head of Development, Pulteney Peopleโ€™s Project said:

โ€œNetworking and close working relationships with our partners are a vital part of our service delivery, especially in an area which is so geographically diverse.

“Working closely with Skills Development Scotland enables us to explore new ways to work together to support our customers and communities.โ€

SDS advisers work across the country supporting anyone looking to get into work, change career, upskill or reskill, or re-join the workforce after a career break.

Customers can contact the local SDS team on 01847 895310, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
