A total of 165 new probationary constables have officially joined Police Scotland after being sworn in at ceremonies across the country yesterday, Thursday 6 November 2025.

The recruits 112 men and 53 women were each issued with their warrant cards as they took the declaration of a constable before members of Police Scotland’s Chief Officer Team.

The latest intake brings the national force’s total officer establishment to 16,532.

Ceremonies were held at both Police Scotland Headquarters in Tulliallan and Fettes Police Station in Edinburgh, with senior officers welcoming the new recruits to what has been described as “a job like no other.”

Deputy Chief Constable Bex Smith addressed the new officers at Tulliallan, praising their decision to serve their communities.

“I thank our new recruits for stepping forward to help safeguard our communities,” she said.

“They are taking on the responsibilities and duties of a police officer, a job like no other where people will turn to them for help, often in the most critical and vulnerable circumstances.

“When these officers deploy to communities they will uphold Police Scotland’s values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at all times.”

Director of Human Resources Katy Miller also welcomed the probationers at the Edinburgh ceremony, recognising the diversity of experience within the new cohort.

Among the recruits are 17 with previous military service and 18 who speak additional languages including French, Bengali, Gaelic and Afrikaans.

The new constables will complete the first stage of their two-year probationary training before deploying to communities across Scotland on 9 March 2026.

Police Scotland continues to recruit new officers, encouraging people from all backgrounds to consider “a job like no other” one that serves, protects, and supports communities across the country.
