A new temporary roundabout is set to come into action on the A9 between Tomatin and Moy from Thursday 24 April as preparations ramp up for major A9 dualling works.
The roundabout, which will be located at Invereen, is being introduced to manage the mix of public traffic and construction vehicles safely near the site’s main compound.
A 30mph speed limit will also come into force on approach and departure from the roundabout to ensure safety for all road users as well as workers on site.
Although most of the heavy lifting will happen away from the main A9 route, some overnight traffic signals will be needed in the lead-up to the launch date for final surfacing and road lining.
The temporary roundabout is expected to go live from the morning of 24 April, marking a key milestone in the project that will ultimately see this notorious stretch of single carriageway transformed into dual carriageway.
Emergency vehicles and pedestrians will continue to have full access, and local bus services will run as normal throughout the works.
Transport officials are urging drivers to be mindful of the changes, take it slow through the temporary setup, and build in some extra time for journeys while the construction is ongoing.
All works are weather dependent, so there’s always a chance of delays or rescheduling if conditions take a turn.
For the most up-to-date information, road users are being directed to the Traffic Scotland website.
It’s another step forward in the long-awaited transformation of the A9, a route that’s vital to communities and commerce throughout the Highlands and beyond.
