Newtonmore Set Up Kingussie Camanachd Cup Final as Goals Flow Across The Highlands

Newtonmore will face Kingussie in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final after surviving a dramatic semi final against Oban Camanachd on Saturday 15th August.

Oban Camanachd twice found the net through Connor Howe, but Newtonmore fought back with Steven MacDonald scoring from the penalty spot in the 78th minute before Matthew Sloss struck in the 87th minute to make it 2–2.

With the sides still level, the tie went to penalties, where Newtonmore prevailed 2–1 to secure their place in the final against old rivals Kingussie.

Kingussie had booked their place in the final with victory over Skye the previous weekend and continued their strong Premiership form with a 4–1 win away at Fort William.

Calum McLay, Rory Munro, Jack Nelson and Ruaridh Anderson were all on target for Kingussie after Victor Smith had given Fort William the lead.

Skye secured a 3–1 victory away at Kyles Athletic, while a 90th minute goal from Stuart Calison gave Lochaber a 2–1 victory over Col Glen.

Friday night had already seen Kinlochshiel claim a 2–0 Premiership victory over Caberfeidh through goals from John MacRae and Archie MacRae.

In the National Division, Lovat produced an impressive 4–1 victory over Glasgow Mid Argyll, with Graeme MacMillan scoring a hat trick after the visitors had taken the lead in the opening minute.

Bute defeated Beauly 3–1, while two goals from Archie MacNiven gave Kilmallie a 2–0 victory over Inveraray.

North Division 1 delivered plenty of goals, with Inverness recording an impressive 5–1 victory away at Fort William.

Kinlochshiel won an eight goal encounter 5–3 away at Glengarry, Glenurquhart defeated Skye 2–1 and Strathglass edged Kingussie 4–3 thanks to Michael Stokes’ 90th minute winner.

Newtonmore had opened the week’s action on Wednesday with a 4–1 North Division 1 victory over Caberfeidh, with James Coyle scoring twice.

North Division 2 produced some of the weekend’s biggest scorelines.

Lovat defeated Beauly 7–1 with James MacPherson scoring a hat trick, while Kilmallie swept aside Boleskine 8–0 as Ewen Mowatt scored four and Martyn Cameron added three.

Duncan O’Parka scored all three goals as Inverness defeated Lochcarron 3–1, while Lochaber recorded a 3–1 victory over Lewis.

In South Division 1, Lochside Rovers edged Aberdour 3–2, while Kyles Athletic were unable to field a team against Ballachulish and were deducted two points, with the fixture to be rescheduled.

South Division 2 provided another goal fest as Kilmory defeated Bute 6–4, while Strachur Dunoon hit ten in a 10–1 victory away at Stirling.

Women’s shinty also produced plenty of goals, with Lochaber defeating Inverness 6–0 in the Premier League and Strathspey recording a 5–2 National League victory over Glengarry.

Inveraray and Strathglass shared thirteen goals in a remarkable 8–5 victory for Inveraray, while Lochaber defeated Inverness 6–2 and Lovat edged Skye 1–0 in the North League.

Kilmallie recorded a 7–0 victory over Stirling in the South League, while Glasgow Mid Argyll defeated Uddingston 4–0.

With Newtonmore and Kingussie now heading towards one of shinty’s great rivalries on its biggest stage, attention will increasingly turn towards the Camanachd Cup Final and the battle for one of the most prized trophies in Scottish sport.
