North Air Workers Win Pay Boost at Scottish Airports

Tanker drivers working across Scotland’s airports have secured a pay rise following a successful push by Unite.

Around 100 North Air staff who refuel aircraft at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Kirkwall, Sumburgh and Stornoway will see a four percent pay increase, backdated to April.

The deal also delivers a four percent rise in shift allowances and overtime rates.

Weekend overtime will now be paid at double time, recognising the demanding nature of the work.

Paternity leave has been improved to offer full basic pay after 26 weeks of service.

An additional day of annual leave will also be awarded based on years of service.

The agreement is the latest success in Unite’s Runway to Success campaign, aimed at improving conditions across the aviation sector.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham welcomed the result, calling it a strong win for the workers.

“Unite has delivered wage wins for our members at North Air across Scottish airports,” she said.

“These pay deals build on the progress we’ve made in recent years and reflect the essential work our members do every day.”

The union also confirmed it has extended its formal recognition agreement with North Air.

The agreement, which previously covered Aberdeen and Inverness, now includes Kirkwall, Sumburgh and Stornoway.

This marks an important step in ensuring workers in the Highlands and Islands are equally represented and protected.

Pat McIlvogue, Unite’s lead officer for civil aviation, said the deal reflects the value of a skilled and dedicated workforce.

“These tanker drivers and airfield operators play a vital role in Scotland’s aviation industry,” he said.

“We’re pleased to deliver a deal that gives them a meaningful boost and recognises the contribution they make.”

The announcement comes as airports across Scotland prepare for a busy summer season.

It is a timely reminder that behind every flight is a team of workers making it all possible.
