ScotRail has released an extra 100,000 Advance Single tickets in a major fare drop aimed at helping passengers save money on rail travel across Scotland.
The additional tickets were released on Wednesday 20 May and could allow customers to save up to 60 per cent on selected longer distance journeys.
Advance Single tickets are available year round on a range of routes across Scotland and the latest release gives travellers more opportunities to secure cheaper fares.
Popular intercity routes included in the offer include services between Glasgow and Edinburgh to Aberdeen and Inverness, alongside coastal journeys to destinations such as Oban and Mallaig.
Advance fares are also available on some rural routes into and out of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness.
ScotRail says passengers can maximise savings by booking as early as possible and remaining flexible with travel times.
Tickets are currently available to book up to 12 weeks in advance and must be purchased before 6pm two days ahead of travel.
The rail operator is also encouraging passengers to consider quieter services early in the morning or later in the evening where Advance fares are often more widely available.
Customers are also advised to search from major city stations rather than local stops to improve the chances of finding cheaper tickets.
Additional discounts may also apply for railcard holders and Club 50 members.
Claire Dickie, Commercial Director at ScotRail, said:
“ScotRail’s Advance Ticket Drop is a great way for customers to save up to 60 per cent on longer distance train journeys.
“By releasing an extra 100,000 Advance tickets we’re making it easier for people to find better value fares and get out and explore by train.
“Whether it’s a city break, a trip to the coast, or a Highland adventure, it’s the perfect opportunity for people to see more of Scotland for less.”
Among the most popular routes where Advance fares are available are journeys linking Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee, Perth, Oban, Wick, Kyle of Lochalsh and Mallaig.
Advance fares are not available for travel between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The latest ticket release comes as rail operators continue efforts to encourage more leisure travel by train while households across Scotland remain under pressure from the wider cost of living crisis.
