ScotRail Sees Surge in Easter Travel as Passenger Numbers Rise

ScotRail has recorded more than 800,000 passenger journeys over the Easter weekend, highlighting growing demand for rail travel across Scotland.

Figures show 802,367 journeys were made between Friday 3 April and Monday 6 April 2026, marking a four percent increase on the same period last year.

The rise reflects strong demand during the holiday period, with people travelling for family visits, shopping trips and Easter events.

The figures point to continued recovery and growth in rail usage, particularly during key seasonal periods when travel patterns peak.

ScotRail is now encouraging families to continue using rail services over the Easter holidays, promoting its Family Pass as a way to make travel more accessible.

The pass offers seven consecutive days of unlimited travel for up to two adults and four children, aimed at making longer trips and multiple journeys more affordable.

Claire Dickie said:

“It’s great to see so many people choosing to travel with ScotRail over the Easter weekend, with more than 800,000 journeys made across the country.

“These strong passenger numbers highlight the continued demand for rail travel, whether customers are visiting family, enjoying days out, or travelling to Easter events.

“We’re proud to play our part in helping people get to where they need to be, and we look forward to welcoming even more customers on board in the weeks and months ahead.”

The increase signals a positive trend for rail travel in Scotland, with passenger numbers continuing to build as confidence returns and more people choose train travel for convenience and value.
