SNP Set to Fulfil Council Tax Freeze Promise

SNP Leader, Humza Yousaf, celebrated the party’s promise to implement a Council Tax freeze for households across Scotland.

Yousaf joined SNP MP for Inverclyde, Ronnie Cowan MP, SNP MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Stuart McMillan, and party activists in Inverclyde – one of the final council areas set to confirm freezing Council Tax bills for households.

The policy was announced during Yousaf’s first speech at a SNP conference as party leader in October 2023.

Despite Labour-run Inverclyde council attempting to block the measure to support hard-working households during a Westminster-inflicted cost of living crisis, the Scottish Government is on course to delivering the freeze for everyone in all 32 Scottish local authorities.

Humza Yousaf said:

“In October last year I promised a national Council Tax freeze for households across Scotland and that is what the SNP is delivering.

“Despite Labour’s attempts to stop people in Inverclyde from receiving this support, I am delighted that we are succeeding in delivering it.

“Council tax bills will be effectively frozen in all 32 local authorities next year.

“Council tax bills in Scotland are already hundreds of pounds a year lower than they are in England and this fully funded Council Tax freeze gives people even more relief whilst they grapple with increased costs.

“This is the SNP delivering for people when they need it the most.

“So while Westminster is forcing people to pay the price of broken Brexit Britain and economic mismanangement, the SNP is taking action where we can to protect household budgets.

“In stark contrast to the Tories and Labour Party, the SNP is tackling the cost of living crisis, investing in our public services and mitigating against the worst of Westminster’s cuts.

“At the Westminster election, vote SNP to elect a strong team of SNP MPs who will stand up for Scotland and work to build a better future as an independent country.”
