Two Moray Community Councils Re Established After Rerun Elections

Two Moray community councils have been successfully re established following rerun elections held earlier this month.

Buckie and District Community Council and Findochty and District Community Council both attracted enough nominations during a reopened nomination period to meet the minimum requirements needed to form a council.

As there were no contested seats in either area, all nominated members were elected unopposed.

The rerun elections were held after both councils failed to attract sufficient nominations during the original community council election process at the end of 2025.

An additional nomination period ran between 6 January and 20 January to give local residents another opportunity to come forward.

Council officials said the extra window was designed to encourage wider participation and ensure communities were not left without representation.

Following the successful reruns, both community councils will now move forward to hold their inaugural meetings.

At those meetings, office bearers will be appointed and arrangements for future meetings will be agreed.

Community council meetings are open to the public and residents are being encouraged to attend and take part.

Community councils play a key role in Moray by representing local views on planning matters, local services, and wider community concerns.

They also act as an important link between residents and Moray Council.

Council leaders say strong community councils help ensure local voices are heard and reflected in decision making.

The re establishment of both councils means Buckie, Findochty, and surrounding areas will continue to have formal representation at a local level.

Officials said community involvement remains vital to the long term health and resilience of towns and villages across Moray.

Residents interested in learning more about their local community council are encouraged to seek out meeting dates and guidance on how to get involved.
