After a short hiatus from the stand-up circuit, Hazel Urquhart is returning to the stage—and she’s coming home.
The 28-year-old comedian, originally from Inverness, will make her long-awaited comeback as part of a powerhouse line-up at Inverness Townhouse on Saturday 19 April
Hazel first stepped into the comedy world while studying journalism in the central belt, cutting her teeth on the stages of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Since then, she’s performed all over Scotland, from the Edinburgh Fringe to packed community halls in Thurso, earning a reputation for her witty, relatable storytelling and sharp observational humour.
Now she’s back in the Highlands with fresh material, a new perspective, and her trademark charm fully intact.
“Hazel brings that rare balance of warmth and bite,” says fellow comic Rab Mulheron.
“She’s not afraid to poke fun at herself—or the rest of us—and the audience loves her for it.”
Her return will headline The Highlanders Are Coming—a bold, grassroots comedy showcase created by Highland comedians who are doing it all themselves.
This is not a tour backed by big promoters or comedy agents—it’s homegrown, unfiltered, and determined to prove that the best laughs don’t just come from the central belt.
The show’s organiser is Rab Mulheron, a former Highland League footballer and manager turned comic, who now headlines gigs across Scotland with his long-time comedy partner Joe Sweeney.
Together they form Rude & Good, a duo known for their sharp delivery, outrageous punchlines, and chemistry honed over eight years on the road.
Rab describes the show as a fightback of sorts—a declaration that Highland comics can hold their own on any stage.
“We’re the Davids taking on the Goliaths,” he says.
Alongside Hazel and Rude & Good is an outstanding line-up of performers who represent the energy and evolution of the Highland scene.
Tom Cairns, recently named Inverness Comedian of the Year 2024, brings his blend of musical comedy, quick wit, and nerdy references, all served with a dose of country-boy charm.
Matt Back, winner of Best Comedian at the Aberdeen Fringe, is known for his brilliant accents and “scary dad” style.
He’s also one of the few comics experimenting with Gaelic comedy, having recently begun incorporating the language into his routines.
Completing the line-up is Stephen Clark, one of the fastest-rising comedians in Inverness with razor-sharp timing and fresh, fearless material.
Together, this group of Highlanders is staging something rare—a comedy show that doesn’t just entertain but makes a statement.
They’re doing it on their own terms, in one of the city’s most iconic venues, and they’re inviting audiences to laugh with them—not at them.
Tickets are £12.50 plus booking fee, available now via Skiddle
Whether you’re local, visiting, or just curious about what happens when Highlanders take the mic, this is the show to see.
