Councillor Ken Gowans has expressed gratitude to the Highland Council’s road crews for their tireless work this winter.

Snow, sleet, and freezing temperatures recently swept through the Highlands, creating tough conditions across the region.

Despite these challenges, Councillor Gowans, Vice Convener of the Council and Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, commended the crews for their dedication.

He said:

“I would like to thank all the Highland Council roads crews across the area for their continuous efforts to help keep the region moving as much as possible.”

Highlighting their hard work, he added:

“They have been working in extreme conditions with the resources available to them and have been doing their best to keep priority roads open.”

The crews include snowplough drivers, pavement tractor operators, and grit spreaders who ensure roads and footpaths remain safe.

“While we are still warm at home, the crews are out before any snow has been cleared, often in difficult conditions, and their hard work is greatly appreciated,” Gowans said.

The Council’s gritting policy and priority route maps can be accessed online for those seeking detailed information.

Community groups can also apply for Winter Resilience assistance to help clear snow and ice from local footpaths.

These winter warriors have undoubtedly earned their place as unsung heroes of the Highlands.
