The transformation of Inverness Castle has reached two key milestones as the highly anticipated attraction edges closer to its grand opening later this year.
The completion of glazing on the modern link building and the full restoration of the historic Rose Window mark significant progress in the ambitious redevelopment project.
The sleek, contemporary link building, which is now wind and watertight, will be home to the Saltire Bistro, offering visitors a unique taste of Highland hospitality.
Designed by the renowned LDN Architects in partnership with NARRO structural engineers, the structure draws inspiration from the Scottish Saltire, a symbol of national pride.
Its striking interwoven roof beams, influenced by the historic castle’s expressed ceiling structures, stretch across the length of the building, allowing light to pour in through large glass roof lights.
Expertly installed by specialist contractors under the direction of Bancon Construction, the glazing ensures the highest standards of craftsmanship and durability.
Meanwhile, the fully refurbished Rose Window, a treasured historical feature, has now taken pride of place in the South Tower Story Room.
Suspended from the ceiling within a bespoke steel frame, the stunning stained glass window has been meticulously restored to showcase its original beauty.
The window will serve as a breathtaking centrepiece as visitors explore the rich stories of the Highlands within the South Tower.
Cllr Ian Brown, Leader of Inverness City and Area and Co-chair of the Inverness Castle Project Delivery Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s progress.
“The completion of glazing on the link building and the restoration of the Rose Window highlight the project’s perfect blend of modern design and respect for Highland heritage.”
“Visitors will be able to soak in the unique ambience of the Saltire Bistro and marvel at the beautifully restored Rose Window as part of their journey through the Inverness Castle Experience.”
The Inverness Castle Experience is set to open later this year, backed by a £30 million investment to bring the historic site to life for a new generation.
The redevelopment is supported by the Scottish and UK Governments, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and a range of key partners.
This ambitious project is part of the wider Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, a £315 million initiative designed to drive sustainable economic growth across the region.
As the transformation of Inverness Castle continues, excitement builds for the unveiling of a world-class attraction that will celebrate the spirit, history, and culture of the Highlands.
